That is inherently what a roguelike isnt. To inject action into a turn based, tile based format is often to take away the tiles and turns, replacing strategy and tact with reflex and speed. It isnt.Īs for action roguelike: Sure, there's "one"(soon to be two if that rhythm based zelda game is proc-gen and permadeath) specifically, Crypt of the necrodancer. If "permadeath"+random=roguelike to you, then solitaire is a bloody roguelike. "Card based roguelikes" are either games that inject cards into the "actual roguelike format"(see space grunts 2 and games like it) or they simply arent by the simple fact that all cardgames are "permadeath" by your loose standards of what can be considered permadeath, and all cardgames are random(why else would there be a shuffling mechanic?). I prefer the term "actual roguelike" for "classic roguelikes" as you call them.
